STAR TREK: VOYAGER
TEASER
FADE IN:
EXT. SPACE - VOYAGER (OPTICAL)
The ship is cruising at warp.
INT. JANEWAY'S READY ROOM
JANEWAY, in a state of some irritation, talking to the computer.
JANEWAY
Computer, display course to any planet within sensor range that fits optimum resupply parameters and maintains present direction towards Alpha Quadrant.COMPUTER
No such course found to any planet within sensor range; all trajectories require 90 degree or greater diversion.Janeway punches data into PADD.
JANEWAY
(more irritated)
Computer, display course to any planet within sensor range that fits minimum resupply parameters and maintains present direction towards Alpha Quadrant.COMPUTER
No such course found to any planet within sensor range; all trajectories require 90 degree or greater diversion.JANEWAY
(deeply irritated)
So we can either eat or go home but not both?COMPUTER
Please restate question.JANEWAY
(muttering)
Oh hell...Janeway slams the PADD onto her desk and spins around in her chair, hunched over, glowering at the floor.
Doorbell pings.
JANEWAY
(dangerously)
Come!CHAKOTAY, PARIS, TUVOK and SEVEN file in like ducks and stand there somewhat awkwardly. Janeway gives them a foul look but then sighs and smiles weakly.
PARIS
(more brightly than
necessary)
Captain!
(beat)
We're off to Sandrine's for a little
(beat)
refreshment and thought you might like to join us.CHAKOTAY
All this time away from home is getting to the crew, Captain; the Delta Blues are upon us again.
(looking pointedly
at Janeway)
And it looks like we could ALL use a break.TUVOK
(looking at Chakotay)
I'm not sure blues is the right word, Captain. Recent crew behavior can best be described as
(beat)
stir-crazy.Paris snorts... Seven observes.
TUVOK
(continuing, to Janeway)
But the remedy is the same. Would you care to join us?PARIS
Yeah, even Tuvok is coming; he must be running an experiment or something.JANEWAY
(nodding graciously)
Thank you, but no. I have much to do, including a visit to astrometrics. I need to find a place to resupply this ship
(waving a PADD)
before I shove one of these things through the wall.
(beat)
Have one for me!They file out the door. Chakotay pauses one more time, wordlessly opening his hands to ask Janeway again to join them. She holds up a palm to indicate a No; he nods and walks out. OFF Seven, observing this interaction.
INT. VOYAGER CORRIDOR
Seven and Tuvok, walking behind Chakotay and Paris.
SEVEN
Mr. Tuvok, I have a question regarding human behavior.TUVOK
(dryly)
So you're asking a Vulcan.SEVEN
(oblivious)
Captain Janeway's response to our request. It's logic was not flawed, since she did have many important tasks to complete, yet it seemed somehow
(beat)
wrong. She should have joined us. Why did she not see that a break from her work would ultimately improve her productivity?TUVOK
I have observed, Seven, that stress in humans does not so much impair logic as impair the ability to acquire adequate input from one's environment.SEVEN
(thoughtful)
Stress ...TUVOK
This perceptual impairment is what leads to
(beat)
inferior performance. Even when flawless reasoning is applied to incomplete information, the result is more often than not
(beat)
illogical.SEVEN
I see.TUVOK
(glancing at Seven)
Your concern for the Captain is admirable.SEVEN
(glancing back)
I am not concerned.TUVOK
(raising an eyebrow)
Indeed.DISSOLVE TO:
INT. ASTROMETRICS (OPTICAL)
Janeway at work, rotating a 3D view of the furthest reaches of the space they are transversing.
JANEWAY
Computer, repeat sensor sweep of [TECH for the next segment of space] and display.COMPUTER
Working.JANEWAY
(again irritated)
Come on ...Janeway rubs her forehead. Seven walks in.
SEVEN
Captain. You have been here for hours. You are impairing your perceptual abilities. You should rest.Janeway gives her the "drop dead" look. Seven looks puzzled, then gets it.
SEVEN
I apologize, Captain. I was
(beat)
concerned.
JANEWAY
(slowly smiling)
Why Seven, I'm touched.Seven looks a bit awkward.
JANEWAY
(continues)
Maybe you're right. I ...Computer beeps and an area of the display blinks red.
JANEWAY
(continues - fully alert)
Computer, identify anomaly.COMPUTER
[TECH description that means 'this could be a wormhole'].JANEWAY
(to Seven)
It looks like my scans may have picked up something even more interesting than food!JANEWAY
(continuing, to computer)
Computer, identify location and display.Screen shows space in flux, then blossoming into a smallish wormhole.
JANEWAY
(hits comm badge)
Janeway to Chakotay.CHAKOTAY
Chakotay here, Captain.JANEWAY
(sounding quite pleased)
Report to the briefing room, Commander, and bring senior staff.CHAKOTAY
Captain?JANEWAY
We may have just found ourselves a wormhole!OFF Janeway and Seven: Janeway's staring at the display and Seven's staring at Janeway.
FADE OUT.

ACT ONE
FADE IN:
INT. VOYAGER BRIEFING ROOM (OPTICAL)
Senior staff plus Seven are present. Janeway at visual display, looking at recording of a wormhole closing.
JANEWAY
If we forecast when and where the transitory wormhole event will appear again, we can send in a probe to determine the location of its terminus.
(looking at crew)
We can only that hope it's other end is closer to the Alpha Quadrant than this one.TUVOK
We cannot assume the wormhole will even reappear, Captain.JANEWAY
True enough. But if it does, I want to be ready. Sensors are set to pick up the [TECH for pre-wormhole element that appears in the flux preceding the wormhole event].SEVEN
Transitory wormholes are rare, Captain. And when they do occur, the location and duration of the event varies, as does the size of the wormhole itself.
(beat)
It could be big enough to engulf Voyager.
(beat)
I would suggest backing away from this immediate vicinity until we know exactly where the wormhole terminates.TUVOK
A wise precaution.JANEWAY
I agree. In fact, we'll ready a shuttle craft and deliver the probe from there. I'll pilot the shuttle myself and deliver the probe by hand if I have to.CHAKOTAY
Unwise, Captain. Tom should pilot the shuttle.JANEWAY
No. This one's mine. That's the plan.Janeway looks around at her staff.
SEVEN
Captain, once again your logic is ...Tuvok shakes his head at Seven. Janeway stares her down.
JANEWAY
Dismissed.DISSOLVE TO:
INT. SHUTTLE
Janeway, alone, tapping at console.
CHAKOTAY (V.O.)
Captain, the [TECH for pre-wormhole element] levels are rising.JANEWAY
Probe enabled and ready to go.
INT. VOYAGER BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Screen shows the shuttle moving away from Voyager. Suddenly, space is in flux, then blossoms into a smallish wormhole.
JANEWAY (V.O.)
I'm going closer.CHAKOTAY
Be careful, Captain.JANEWAY (V.O.)
Noted, Chakotay. Positioning shuttle directly in front of wormhole.Viewscreen on bridge shows shuttle moving from the side of the wormhole to its front.
INT. SHUTTLE
Janeway, still working at console.
JANEWAY
(a little testy)
Moving a little closer. Preparing to launch probe.SEVEN (V.O.)
(alarmed)
Captain! [TECH for pre-wormhole element] levels rising again!
Return! Now!!!!!!!JANEWAY
Almost got it!
INT. VOYAGER BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Viewscreen on bridge shows space in flux on top of the wormhole.
CHAKOTAY
Captain!Viewscreen on bridge shows the wormhole quickly expanding outward and forward in the shape of a funnel, now big enough to contain Voyager. Janeway's shuttle is sucked in! Wormhole remains for a moment, collapses back in on itself, and blinks out of existence!
Seven smashes her borgified fist into the console, doing considerable damage to the console and to herself.
SEVEN
(loudly, with contempt)
You arrogant fool!OFF horrified faces staring at viewscreen.
INT. BRIDGE OF ALIEN SHIP - THE PILGRIM (OPTICAL)
Bridge, with CAPTAIN KOHANN, BIRK, and three NDs at various positions. Tiberians don't wear uniforms; more like a group of scientists. Ship's complement about 50 people. Bridge is simple; technology is pre-Enterprise NCC-1701. But there is a viewscreen/window and ship is warp-capable. This alien race looks rather human; Birk is female; the Captain is male, young, and handsome.
BIRK
Preparations complete, Captain. Ready for jump to warp.KOHANN
Lay in course, Birk.BIRK
Course laid in, Captain.KOHANN
Ready, and ...
(raises hand)Just then, the ship rolls violently; the viewscreen window shows a weird energy flux (like the one that precedes the opening of a wormhole).
KOHANN
Engage shields!BIRK
(tapping on console)
Shields engaged, Captain.KOHANN
Back us away, Birk. Both watch the viewscreen windows as the energy flux turns into a wormhole.
KOHANN
Bring us back in a little, and start sensor recordings.Viewscreen windows show the wormhole getting larger.
Just then an object comes rocketing out of the wormhole!KOHANN
Evade! The ship rolls out of the object's path, but just barely; the object clips the ship's shields. The object, as seen from the viewscreen windows, is Janeway's shuttle, now drifting slowly at an awkward slant.
KOHANN
Slap a tractor beam on that ... that ... whatever it is, and pull it into the loading dock.BIRK
(turning around)
Life form on board, Captain.KOHANN
Good. Maybe we can find out why it tried to ram my ship!
INT. PILGRIM'S LOADING DOCK
Captain Kohann and Birk walk around the shuttle, which is pretty banged up, and peek in the window. Janeway is crumpled up inside. The Captain pulls a cell-phone-looking communicator out of his pocket.
KOHANN
(into the communicator)
Doc, now's your chance to practice some of that xenophysiology you've been studying. I think we've landed ourselves an alien!
INT. PILGRIM'S SICK BAY
DOC is working on an unconscious Janeway; she has head bruises and a bad leg. Captain Kohann is supervising.
DOC
Well, she's definitely a female.KOHANN
(looking pleased)
I don't need any xenophysiology to tell me that!Janeway starts to come to and tries to take in where she is. She sits up, tries to hop off the bed, and almost faints.
KOHANN
(catching her)
Easy!Captain Kohann helps her back onto the bed and takes both of her hands in his.
Don't worry, you're safe here.
I'm Captain Kohann of the Tiberian starship Pilgrim.
(beat)
Your ship almost rammed us, flying out of that wormhole!JANEWAY
(grabbing Kohann's arm)
The wormhole! I have to go back!KOHANN
It opened, spit you out, and disappeared.
(beat)
Transitory wormhole. They've been recorded in this area of space, but very rarely.JANEWAY
(realizing she's toast)
My ship!KOHANN
Your craft is safe in our loading dock.JANEWAY
(staring at Kohann)
Voyager!OFF Janeway, staring at Kohann.
CUT TO:
INT. PILGRIM'S CORRIDOR
Captains Kohann and Janeway walking, her a bit quicker, even though she has a slight limp.
JANEWAY
Starcharts, Captain. I need to access your star charts so I can figure out where in the damned Delta Quadrant I am so I can get back to my ship.KOHANN
It would be my pleasure to help you in any way I can, my lady. You are a guest on my ship.
(beat)
But first would it be too much to ask,
(beat)
who you are? And where you came from? And what ship you're talking about, if not the one in my loading dock?Janeway stops, embarrassed.
KOHANN
(continuing)
And what, as you say, is the damned Delta Quadrant???JANEWAY
I'm Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation starship Voyager.
(patting Kohann on the arm)
It's a long story.
(moving him along)
But first, the charts!
INT. PILGRIM'S BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Captains Kohann and Janeway enter the bridge. Janeway takes it in.
KOHANN
(pointing)
You can use the secondary viewscreen.
(beat)
Birk, here, will help you access the star charts.Janeway watches for a second or two, gets the hang of it, and nudges Birk out of the way.
Birk and Kohann exchange looks; OFF Janeway, star charts flipping madly past on the display.
INT. VOYAGER SICKBAY
DOC and Seven. Seven's sitting on bio-bed. Chakotay walks in.
CHAKOTAY
How's our patient?DOC
I hope she didn't do as much damage to the console she smashed as she did to her hand. But as usual, my expertise saved the day. Or should I say, the hand. She's as good as new.Chakotay nods and nods him off. Then he approaches Seven.
CHAKOTAY
Seven?SEVEN
I do not wish company.Chakotay stays put.
CHAKOTAY
We all miss the Captain.SEVEN
I do not miss the Captain. She is an arrogant fool.Chakotay bends towards her and looks her in the eye; she meets his gaze and then looks away.
SEVEN
(deadness in voice)
I was separated from my family when I was only <age>. I adapted.
(beat)
I survived separation from the Borg collective. I coped with a very painful rebirth as
(beat)
an individual. But I do not choose to adapt to the loss of Captain Janeway.
(beat)
She gave me hope. And now,
(bitterly)
through her own arrogance, she is gone.Chakotay studies her for a moment and then puts his big hand on her neck and strokes her cheek.
CHAKOTAY
(softly)
The Captain is human, Seven, just like you and me. And that means she makes mistakes.
(beat)
But if she gave you hope, then use that gift. Use the hope she gave you to see that it's possible to find her. But you have to help us. We can't do it without you.Seven puts her Borgified hand over his and closes her eyes, turning her face away. OFF Seven's face.
FADE OUT.
END OF ACT ONE
ACT TWO
FADE IN:
INT. PILGRIM'S BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Bridge with Captain Kohann, Birk, and three NDs at various positions. Janeway's reaching the end of the star charts; she is paging through them on the view screen much more slowly.
KOHANN
(to Janeway)
Any luck?JANEWAY
I don't understand it. None of these starcharts look ... familiar.KOHANN
I'm afraid this is a relatively unexplored region of space. We're on a mapping mission ourselves but ...Suddenly, an alarm goes off!
BIRK
Klaxon marauder, Captain, and it doesn't look happy!Janeway spins around and takes in what's going on. Viewscreen shows big ship on attack approach.
KOHANN
Engage shields! Evade! The Klaxon ship blasts Pilgrim, shaking the bridge.
KOHANN
(continuing)
Target their weapons array and fire!Birk does so.
BIRK
Their shields are holding, Captain.KOHANN
Attack sequence theta.BIRK
Aye, Captain.
EXT. PILGRIM AND KLAXON SHIPS (OPTICAL)
Two ships in battle; Pilgrim slides behind the Klaxon ship then dives, firing, from above.
INT. PILGRIM'S BRIDGE
JANEWAY
Nice move, Captain.KOHANN
Not good enough. We have to get closer to penetrate their shields! Take us behind that second moon, Birk.Birk does so. Janeway looks at Kohann.
JANEWAY
(standing)
Captain, do the Klaxon have faster-than-light sensors? And how fast can you jump to warp?KOHANN
(studying Janeway)
Explain.JANEWAY
Come out from behind the moon, jump to warp, and come out of warp right next to the Klaxon ship. You'll get there just as the light from your jump to warp reaches the Klaxons. They'll see two images. You'll have a moment of confusion to attack.Kohann thinks for a second.
JANEWAY
(continues; puts
hands on hips;
command voice)
It works.Kohann makes a quick judgment and turns to Birk.
KOHANN
Do it, and target their weapons array. Fire the second we come out of warp.BIRK
Aye, Captain!
EXT. PILGRIM AND KLAXON SHIPS (OPTICAL)
The Pilgrim drops into and out of warp, blasts the weapons array on the Klaxon ship, and gets out of that space.
INT. PILGRIM'S BRIDGE
KOHANN
(nodding, to Janeway)
Impressive, Captain.JANEWAY
Thank you.
(somewhat testy)
I do need you to keep me alive so I can get back to my ship.Kohann makes a face.
KOHANN
Huh. Well Captain, maybe you'd like to add an explanation of that little maneuver to the long list of things you're going to tell me about.Janeway smiles and nods.
JANEWAY
The Picard maneuver. I'd be happy to.KOHANN
(points to the door)
Now.
INT. PILGRIM'S BAR
Captains Kohann and Janeway are sitting in a room used as a gathering place for the crew. Plants, nice wooden tables, Tiberian art, subdued lighting, music in the background. Large window onto space. Mid-conversation.
JANEWAY
So I saw the wormhole as the perfect chance to get my crew home. And,
(beat)
in an act of insufferable arrogance, which my crew tried to talk me out of, I flew the shuttle myself.Kohann nods.
JANEWAY
(continues)
Tom could have gotten out of there in time. But I wasn't quick enough. When the wormhole grew, I got pulled in.
(beat)
So here I am. But I have no idea where HERE is.KOHANN
And no luck with the star charts?JANEWAY
Nothing. Nothing looks familiar. I don't even know if I'm in the Delta Quadrant.KOHANN
Quadrants. You're ahead of us there. The areas of space we've charted are nowhere near that vast.
JANEWAY
I wish I could show you Voyager's astrometrics lab.
(gestures)
[TECH for technical specifications of Voyager's astrometrics lab, e.g., data banks, mapping capabilities, etc].Janeway looks off...
Kohann sits back, folds his arms, and looks at Janeway.
KOHANN
A captain without her ship. Not a good thing.
(beat)
But you certainly seem
(smiling now, somewhat
flirtatious)
resourceful.Janeway smiles, accepting the compliment.
KOHANN
(continuing, more seriously)
And my crew and I will do everything we can to help you.JANEWAY
I can't thank you enough.KOHANN
(smiling)
It's time I showed you to your quarters.Captain Kohann stands up and escorts Janeway out the door (a real door, not a sliding door). He opens it for her and lets her get close as she walks past.
CUT TO:
INT. PILGRIM'S CORRIDOR
Captains Kohann and Janeway walk for a moment and stop outside a door. Kohann gets a tad closer to Janeway than he really needs to be and leans against the wall.
KOHANN
I suppose you humans need to
(beat)
sleep, like Tiberians?JANEWAY
(smiling)
Yes, we need to sleep.KOHANN
I was wondering, Kathryn. In the Alpha Quadrant. Do you also ...
(he pauses, smiling
innocently)Janeway opens the door to her quarters and gives him a look.
JANEWAY
(smiling)
Good Night, Captain.Kohann stares at the closed door.
KOHANN
Dang.DISSOLVE TO:
INT. VOYAGER BRIEFING ROOM (OPTICAL)
Senior staff including TORRES, KIM, and Seven; Chakotay's in the Captain's chair. Seven's at the display. A week has passed.
SEVEN
This display indicates the probability distribution of the terminus of the wormhole.PARIS
If I'm reading it correctly, we still don't know where that thing ends up.SEVEN
You are correct.TUVOK
The wormhole has opened six times since the Captain
(beat)
made her transit. Each time it was in a different location. And each time its size was insufficient even for a probe.PARIS
So we don't know anything more now than we did a week ago.TUVOK
No, we do not. And there is no particular reason to think the odds of our success will improve.CHAKOTAY
We have to make a decision. I'm the commanding officer now, but on this one I'll go with the will of the senior staff.
(beat)
How much more time do we spend here, waiting on the wormhole, before we resume our journey to the Alpha Quadrant?TORRES
(appalled)
We can't just leave the Captain behind!!!CHAKOTAY
Captain Janeway would want us to continue on. Her single focus for over four years has been to "Get this crew home."SEVEN
It was the singlemindedness of that focus that landed the Captain in the wormhole in the first place. I suggest that we do not make the same mistake.KIM
(ironically)
The Captain is a rather critical member of the crew, Commander, and she's covered by that "get the crew home" directive as well. And she's not going to make it back if we leave her here.CHAKOTAY
Mr. Tuvok?TUVOK
It would be
(beat)
premature to leave at this time.CHAKOTAY
So I take it we are all willing to stick here a while yet and continue trying to find the Captain?Nods all around.
CHAKOTAY
(smiling)
That suits me just fine.
INT. PILGRIM'S BAR
Captains Kohann and Janeway. The Tiberian equivalent of blues music playing in the background. Janeway is in Tiberian clothes; something "tastefully casual."
KOHANN
Birk tells me you've recalibrated the sensors and tripled their range!JANEWAY
I've spent the week tracking the wormhole terminus by picking up traces of the [TECH for pre-wormhole element]. But each of the six wormhole events has been too short and too small.
(disgusted)
Even if I could have gotten there in time, the wormhole opening hasn't been big enough to get a pebble through, never mind a shuttle.KOHANN
And the sensor recordings?JANEWAY
I've reviewed them so many times I see them in my sleep.KOHANN
So the universe is not cooperating.JANEWAY
(shaking her head)
It hasn't for a while. My only hope is to be in the right place at the right time, when that wormhole decides to open itself up again as big as it did when it brought me here.KOHANN
Your crew. They'll wait?JANEWAY
(smiling)
Oh, they'll wait.
(more seriously)
But not forever.Kohann nods in understanding.
JANEWAY
(continuing)
My First Officer, Chakotay,
(feeling a pang of loss)
he knows the drill.
(beat)
He'll get the crew back home again.KOHANN
Home?JANEWAY
The Alpha Quadrant.KOHANN
Your world of origin.JANEWAY
Worlds. Yes. Sixty thousand light years is a long way from home.KOHANN
Yes it is, but I guess it all depends on what you call home. That gets Janeway's attention; she looks at Kohann.
KOHANN
(continues)
Kathryn. Starship captains are married to their ships. You know we don't usually have traditional personal lives.JANEWAY
Tell me about it.KOHANN
And our crews have made similar choices.
(gesturing around)
This is a ship of exploration, much like yours.Janeway nods, missing her ship and crew.
KOHANN
(continuing)
And it's our home. I'm not just the Captain, I'm the leader of a community. And my crew is my family. So wherever we go, that's where home is, no matter what
(beat)
quadrant it's in.Janeway looks away, looking lost and lost in thought.
KOHANN
(in a lighter tone)
So. Are the members of your crew as
(beat)
singleminded
(beat)
as their Captain?Janeway looks back at him and folds her arms.
JANEWAY
No.KOHANN
(smiling)
Good! Then there's hope!JANEWAY
Huh.The music changes.
KOHANN
(continuing)
Come on! Let's dance!JANEWAY
(incredulous)
Dance! I can't
(beat)
dance! I'm God knows where, I've lost my ship, I've lost my crew!
I...have...to
(slapping table with
both hands)
Do something!Kohann looks at her for a moment, then puts both of his hands over hers.
KOHANN
Sometimes, Kathryn, even for starship captains, the best thing to do is nothing.
(beat)
Sometimes, we simply have to await events.Janeway draws her hands back.
JANEWAY
(darkly)
I don't want to do that.
(beat)
If I stop,
(looking at Kohann)
I may not start again.Kohann nods, acknowledging her point.
KOHANN
Indeed.
(pause)
But that, Kathryn, is exactly why we need to dance.Janeway stares at Kohann. Kohann stands up, and gestures to an open part of the floor. Janeway looks at him but doesn't move.
He takes her hand; she lets him. He walks her to the dance floor and she follows, spent. He puts his arms around her; she puts her arms around his neck and lays her head on his chest. Janeway looks very distracted; Kohann looks rather pleased.
They slow dance to the strains of the Tiberian equivalent of "Wasting away in Margaritaville."
FADE OUT.
END OF ACT TWO
ACT THREE
FADE IN:
INT. VOYAGER BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Screen shows a very small wormhole closing up again. Another week has passed.
Paris smacks the console.
PARIS
Damn! When is that thing going to open up big enough to put something through!CHAKOTAY
If it does, we should agree on exactly what it is we want to send in there.Paris turns toward Chakotay.
PARIS
Meaning ... ?TUVOK
Sending a probe through the wormhole will tell us whether the wormhole terminus is further from or closer to the Alpha Quadrant. It will not tell us whether Captain Janeway is alive. And it will not get Voyager to the terminus, either, wherever the terminus might be.SEVEN
It has been two weeks. The window of time for transitory wormhole events does not last forever. And given the infrequency and minimal size of the wormhole, we may only get one chance. If we get any at all.Seven faces Chakotay in a challenging manner.
SEVEN
(continuing)
If the wormhole appears again and the opening is large enough to contain Voyager, we must go through.CHAKOTAY
That would be in direct contravention of Captain Janeway's wishes,
(smiling)
even though I'm inclined to take the chance.
(more seriously)
I think she's made it pretty clear that it's the responsibility of the senior staff to get this crew home.
(beat)
We have no idea where the wormhole terminates. Jumping through it blindly could cost us all the progress it's taken us four years to achieve.SEVEN
It may also get us closer to the Alpha Quadrant. This crew is a community of
(beat)
individuals. Individuals have free will.
(beat)
Ask the crew and let them decide for themselves.TUVOK
That would be logical.CHAKOTAY
Do it.DISSOLVE TO:
INT. VOYAGER BRIEFING ROOM
Senior staff and Seven.
SEVEN
The crew is in favor of transiting the wormhole regardless of where it leads.PARIS
Ah, we're in a gambling mood! Too much time in the Delta Quadrant will do that to you!Again, Seven looks in a challenging manner towards Chakotay.
SEVEN
I have
(beat)
adapted the long-range scanners to alert us at the first sign of [TECH for pre-wormhole element].CHAKOTAY
Tuvok?TUVOK
Our primary mission is one of exploration, Commander. We will still be able to carry out that mission at the terminus of the wormhole. Whether that terminus is closer or further from the Alpha Quadrant is ultimately a secondary consideration.CHAKOTAY
(smiling)
And we may just find our Captain at the other end.PARIS
I'm game. What's a few thousand light years, possibly in the wrong direction, among friends?SEVEN
If we were to locate Captain Janeway, it would complete our
(beat)
ship's complement of officers.
CHAKOTAY
(smiling at Seven)
And that would be
(beat)
efficient.Chakotay looks around at everyone.
CHAKOTAY
(continues)
So the senior staff and the crew are in agreement. Good! When the wormhole opens up enough for Voyager, we go in.Seven looks quizzically at Chakotay.
SEVEN
Commander Chakotay. A question.CHAKOTAY
Yes, Seven.SEVEN
Was it not your intention all along to go after the Captain?CHAKOTAY
(opens his hands and smiles)
Yes it was. I could have ordered the crew into the wormhole. But now we take the risk together,
(beat)
of our own free will.OFF Seven, thinking.
INT. PILGRIM'S BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Bridge with Captain Kohann, Birk, and three NDs at various positions.
BIRK
The enhancements that Captain Janeway's made to the warp engines should make us capable of warp 2.5, Sir. We'll soon be able to make up the two weeks we've lost
(beat)
searching for wormholes.KOHANN
(nodding)
Yes. It's time we moved on.
(beat)
Captain Janeway will have to decide what she wants to do.BIRK
She won't be happy when you tell her we're leaving this region of space.KOHANN
Oh, I know that.CUT TO:
INT. PILGRIM'S BAR
Janeway on couch next to window, looking out; Kohann walks up to her.
KOHANN
Kathryn.Janeway looks up at him and nods.
JANEWAY
You have to leave. I know.
(beat)
You've spent too much time here already on my behalf.KOHANN
I'm sorry.JANEWAY
Thank you for everything you've done.
(beat)
If I can resupply my shuttle, I'll stay in this region, scanning for the wormhole, and let you get on with your mission.
KOHANN
(looking at her quizzically)
So your plan is to stay here, looking for the wormhole. And if you find it?JANEWAY
I go back in and hope to find my ship and my crew at other end, not too far away to catch.Kohann sits down next to Janeway.
KOHANN
I don't get something here. But please explain. Maybe it's a "human thing."JANEWAY
What???KOHANN
Let's say you find the wormhole, it opens up big enough for you to fit, and you go in.JANEWAY
(muttering)
Yes, praise the gods, if any exist in this benighted quadrant, whatever quadrant it is.KOHANN
(oblivious)
What if your crew is coming after you? What happens if you meet Voyager coming the other way? Wormholes, especially ones this small, are [TECH for one-way]. If you and Voyager enter either end simultaneously,
(slaps his hands)
You'd obliterate both ships!! You'd kill yourself and your crew!Facing Janeway and looking her right in the eye.
KOHANN
It looks to me like you haven't even considered the possibility that they might be coming after you!JANEWAY
I have and they won't.
(in full Starfleet
command mode)
If my crew knows anything, they know to continue their journey to the Alpha Quadrant. With or without me.
(beat)
Anyway, they'd assume if the wormhole did open, I'd be coming back through.KOHANN
They also might assume that you were injured or your shuttle was destroyed!JANEWAY
(angrily)
I don't even know where I am! A trip through the wormhole could take Voyager thousands of light years out of its way! No. They shouldn't come. And they won't.KOHANN
You know that for a fact.JANEWAY
I do.KOHANN
(folding his arms)
And I suppose you know that like you knew it was best for you to pilot the shuttle.Janeway gives him a really filthy look and turns away.
KOHANN
(continuing)
Kathryn. Tell me one more thing.Janeway looks back.
KOHANN
(continuing)
Your First Officer. Is he
(beat)
a chump???JANEWAY
(indignant)
Indeed not!KOHANN
(gently)
Then you might want to open yourself to the possibility that he's coming after you. Whether you think it's "Starfleet" or not.
(takes her chin with
his fingertip and smiles)
I know that's what I'd do if you were my Captain.JANEWAY
(smiles and rolls her eyes)
Oh, Kohann.Janeway takes his hand away but keeps holding it.
JANEWAY
(continuing)
I miss them so much.KOHANN
As I'm sure they miss you.JANEWAY
(quietly)
I'm so afraid for them.
(looks off)
And Seven? Who'll take care of Seven?Kohann looks at her sympathetically, holding the moment, then slowly stands up.
JANEWAY
(continuing - to Kohann)
Every bone in my body tells me to go.KOHANN
We don't make our jump to warp until tomorrow morning. You have time to think about it.
(beat)
I don't think you should leave.Janeway stares at Kohann.
Kohann leaves.
Far away shot of Janeway, against the window and the stars beyond. She puts her feet up on the couch, wraps her arms around her knees, puts her head down, and curls up, rocking very slowly back and forth.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. PILGRIM'S BAR
It's "morning." Janeway has slept on the couch next to the window and is just now waking up and figuring out where she is.
Janeway looks out the window and bows her head. She gets up and walks out the door.
INT. PILGRIM'S LOADING DOCK
Janeway walks into the loading dock and approaches her shuttle.
She enters and closes the door behind her. She sits down and punches data into the console.
With a determined look, she gives it one more punch.
EXT. PILGRIM AND SHUTTLE (OPTICAL)
Shuttle moves slowly away from Pilgrim.
INT. PILGRIM'S BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Bridge with Captain Kohann, Birk, and three NDs at various positions.
BIRK
Preparations complete, Captain. Ready for jump to warp.KOHANN
Lay in course, Birk.BIRK
Course laid in, Captain.KOHANN
Ready, and ...
(raises hand)
Go!
EXT. PILGRIM AND SHUTTLE (OPTICAL)
Pilgrim goes to warp; shuttle stays behind.
OFF shuttle, alone in space.
FADE OUT.
END OF ACT THREE
ACT FOUR
FADE IN:
INT. VOYAGER; CHAKOTAY'S QUARTERS
Buzzer rings.
CHAKOTAY
Enter.Tuvok walks in.
CHAKOTAY
(continues - surprised)
Mr. Tuvok!TUVOK
I wanted a word with you, Commander. In private.CHAKOTAY
Please sit down. They sit. A pause.
TUVOK
If the wormhole reappears, with an opening large enough to contain Voyager, we will go through.CHAKOTAY
Correct.TUVOK
I assume you have realized that we might meet the Captain's shuttle coming in the other direction.CHAKOTAY
(nods)
I have.TUVOK
And you know that given the width of the wormhole, such an encounter would be catastrophic for both ships.CHAKOTAY
I do.
(beat)
If the opening is large enough for a shuttle, but not for Voyager, we have no choice, and we can hope to see the Captain come through, if she's alive and able.TUVOK
And if the wormhole is large enough for Voyager?CHAKOTAY
I think the Captain will know that we'll come after her.TUVOK
That wouldn't be a logical response, and the Captain is a logical person. For a human.CHAKOTAY
(smiling)
So she is.Chakotay puts his head down and thinks, and then looks at Tuvok again.
CHAKOTAY
(continuing)
After all we've been through together, she has to know we'll come after her.Tuvok nods.
CHAKOTAY
(continuing)
You've known her longer than any of us, Mr. Tuvok. What do you think?TUVOK
I cannot easily predict human behavior. But I, too, favor taking the risk.
(beat)
Thank you, Commander. They nod and Tuvok leaves.
INT. VOYAGER BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Bridge crew and Seven. Screen shows normal space. Crew hears an alert.
SEVEN
Commander! [TECH for pre-wormhole element] levels are rising [TECH for distance] light years away!
(facing Chakotay)
We can be there in less than two minutes at maximum warp.CHAKOTAY
Tom!PARIS
(tapping on console)
Course laid in!CHAKOTAY
Go!
EXT. VOYAGER (OPTICAL)
Voyager goes to warp.
INT. VOYAGER BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Viewscreen shows the ship coming out of warp. The wormhole is in the shape of a funnel, now much bigger than Voyager.
KIM
It's starting to shrink!CHAKOTAY
Take us in, Tom!
EXT. VOYAGER (OPTICAL)
Voyager blasts through wormhole and rockets out the other side.
INT. VOYAGER BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Bridge crew and Seven. Screen shows normal space again.
CHAKOTAY
Where are we, Tom?PARIS
(taps console)
Unknown, Commander.
(turns around)
Apparently in an uncharted area of space!
(taps again)
And no sign of the Captain's shuttle.CHAKOTAY
(to Tuvok)
At least we didn't meet her half way!Tuvok nods.
Seven, looking impatient, starts to walk off the bridge.
SEVEN
I will be in astrometrics, Commander.
(glances at Paris)
Determining our location.
(beat)
And adapting the long-range sensors to scan for the Captain's shuttle.OFF crew, looking at Seven.
INT. PILGRIM'S BAR
Janeway, slouching against the wall next to the window, looking out; her mood is dark. Kohann walks over to her.
JANEWAY
I think I've spent a little too long staring out this window, Kohann.KOHANN
(sympathetically)
We've only been at warp for 45 minutes!JANEWAY
I left the shuttle with a Federation beacon transmitting and recorded the coordinates of your flight path. If Voyager comes out of the wormhole in the same sector of space that I did, they'll find it and they'll find me.KOHANN
And we're broadcasting your federation beacon as well.Janeway nods.
KOHANN
(continues)
You were wise to stay.JANEWAY
After I
(beat)
opened my eyes,
(beat)
I didn't really have a choice.Janeway gives Kohann a look.
JANEWAY
(continues)
I owe you one.
(beat)
I think. They stand together for a moment, looking out the window.
JANEWAY
(quietly)
I did have a life, before Voyager.KOHANN
And you'll have a life after her.JANEWAY
(exhales)
Oh, life without Voyager is one
(bitterly)
growth experience I'm hoping I won't have to face for quite some time.KOHANN
(pause)
Indeed. It seems you have some unfinished business.Janeway turns to him and gives him a piercing look; holds the moment; then breaks the tension.
JANEWAY
Hmmm. So how did one so young and handsome get to be so wise?KOHANN
(grinning)
Hey! If you want to get on my good side, how about souping up my warp drive? I'd love to get this ship past warp 2.5!JANEWAY
Absolutely not! If Voyager is coming, I want her to be able to catch us!KOHANN
Huh.Kohann makes a face and walks out. OFF Janeway, looking out the window.
INT. ASTROMETRICS (OPTICAL)
Seven at work, scanning the space they are transversing.
She notices something, zooms in on it. She picks up the Federation beacon.SEVEN
(to herself)
It's Federation!Seven stops for a moment, experiencing an emotion she doesn't quite know what to do with, and gets a bit teary. Then she puts her hands on the console and composes herself.
SEVEN
(very businesslike)
Seven to the Bridge.CHAKOTAY
Chakotay, here.SEVEN
Commander, I am picking up a beacon on the long-range sensors. It appears to be
(beat)
Federation!
INT. PILGRIM'S BAR
Janeway, at table, writing with pen and paper.
JANEWAY (V.O.)
Captain's Log, Stardate [ ]. Two of the longest weeks of my life, in an unknown region of space, with little to do, isolated from my ship and crew.
(beat)
Kohann is a splendid soul and the Tiberians a noble race.
(beat)
But nothing can ease the loss I feel, separated from the crew I have devoted myself to these past four years
(beat)
and from the people I have come to love.
(beat)
I can only pray that they are well and that this separation will not last forever.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. PILGRIM'S BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Bridge with Janeway, Captain Kohann, Birk, and three NDs at various positions. Close up of Janeway, tapping into a console.
She stops, clearly bored. With nothing better to do, she turns around and watches the bridge activity.
Suddenly, her console beeps!
She spins around, excited, and taps some more - all hands stop and watch her actions.
JANEWAY
It's a tightly focused beam
(beat)
on a Federation frequency!Janeway stands up, glances at Kohann, a look of joy passing across her face. She taps some more.
JANEWAY
(continuing)
The message says, "Stay Put!"She drops back into her chair, staring at Kohann.
KOHANN
All Stop!Kohann nods to Birk, who goes over to the console and taps something in.
BIRK
Origin of message is [TECH for distance]. Assuming maximum warp...Birk looks at Janeway and she nods.
BIRK
(continuing)
...the Federation vessel should arrive in 18 hours!Entire bridge crew breaks out in a hearty round of applause.
Janeway looks down to compose herself for a moment, then regally accepts their congratulations, nodding her head in happiness.
Kohann looks on.
INT. PILGRIM'S BAR
A party to celebrate Voyager's imminent arrival. Lots of people, noise, and festivities. The Tiberians like to party.
Janeway and Kohann are at a table. Janeway looks radiant and is now just figuring out what an attractive man Kohann is.
KOHANN
So my Captain has found her ship...JANEWAY
I can't wait to see her again.KOHANN
...and her crew.JANEWAY
With a little help from my friends. I can't thank you enough.KOHANN
You're a rare one, Kathryn. Voyager's lucky to get you back.JANEWAY
And I'm blessed to get her back.
(folding her arms)
So, Captain, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on my "unfinished business" with Voyager.Kohann starts laughing.
KOHANN
Oh, I think that's something you're going to want to figure out for yourself!JANEWAY
I am anxious for your insights, as a fellow Captain, of course.
(in fake command voice)
Report!KOHANN
(nodding)
As you wish!
(beat)
I'm just guessing, here, Captain ...JANEWAY
Your guesses have been on the mark so far, Kohann.KOHANN
(smiling)
... and with all due respect.JANEWAY
Get on with it!KOHANN
(more seriously)
Every captain walks a fine line between upholding the command structure, and, for want of a better phrase, having a life.
(beat)
None of us find it easy to integrate these two opposing
(beat)
challenges.JANEWAY
(nodding)
You've said yourself, starship captains rarely have traditional personal lives. It's part of the choice we make when we sign on.KOHANN
Right. But that doesn't mean we don't have lives. No sentient being can ever be contained in only one role, even if that role is 'captain.'
(beat)
It's a deadly addiction.JANEWAY
But you know how overwhelming the weight of the responsibility can be; all those people, depending on you, day after day.KOHANN
Indeed I do. My ship is much more primitive than Voyager and that fact has already cost lives. But I'm only her captain, not her god. Not everything is in my hands; not everything is up to me. Sometimes we have to let the world do some of the work!JANEWAY
So if your role of captain is
(beat)
well-formed, you naturally have room for both a job and a life.KOHANN
And the perspective to let the one enrich the other. And the opportunity to relax in between, so we can go the distance.JANEWAY
(sitting back, looking
at Kohann)
It's been a long four years, Kohann. It's invaluable for me to be able to talk about these things with you.KOHANN
(brightly)
I know!Janeway picks up a napkin and throws it at him.
KOHANN
Hey Captain! How about a dance!JANEWAY
(dismissively)
Well I suppose it would pass the time!KOHANN
(brightly)
I can think of a another way to pass the time!JANEWAY
(flirtatiously)
Kohann!KOHANN
Well???She gives him a look, as if to say, "Don't play with me." But then she gets up and they slow dance to the Tiberian equivalent of Ella Fitzgerald singing a Cole Porter tune.
KOHANN
I'm going to miss you when you go, Captain.JANEWAY
As I will miss you. They continue dancing.
KOHANN
Too bad we never got around to that
(looking into her eyes)
warp engine upgrade.JANEWAY
Hmmm. She looks away and they continue dancing.
JANEWAY
(continuing)
I bet we still have time.
Kohann looks at her, and smiles. They dance a bit more.
KOHANN
Hmmm. I bet we do.OFF Kohann and Janeway, dancing.
FADE OUT.
END OF ACT FOUR
ACT FIVE
FADE IN:
INT. PILGRIM'S BRIDGE (OPTICAL)
Bridge, with Janeway, Captain Kohann, Birk, and three NDs at various positions, waiting for Voyager to come out of warp. Janeway is in a mended Starfleet uniform. Mid-conversation.
JANEWAY
And with those warp schematics, you shouldn't have any problem getting well past warp 2.5.KOHANN
Great! Then maybe we'll run into each other again!JANEWAY
(smiling)
Maybe we will.On the viewscreen window, Voyager comes out of warp. Janeway, oddly solemn, stands and stares at Voyager.
KOHANN
She's a beauty.JANEWAY
Indeed she is.Kohann smiles and slightly bows. Janeway punches her comm badge.
KOHANN
(to Janeway)
Enjoy her while you can.JANEWAY
(looking at Kohann)
Janeway to Voyager. One to beam over.Janeway and Kohann smile a farewell as Janeway dematerializes.
CUT TO:
INT. VOYAGER TRANSPORTER ROOM (OPTICAL)
Chakotay is alone in the room, working the controls. Janeway materializes on the platform. She takes a moment to look around and spots Chakotay.
JANEWAY
(rather quietly)
Chakotay.CHAKOTAY
Welcome back, Captain.JANEWAY
Report.Chakotay smiles at her businesslike demeanor.
CHAKOTAY
All systems [TECH for everything's okay].JANEWAY
The ship? The crew?CHAKOTAY
We're all fine.JANEWAY
Chakotay ...Chakotay holds out his hands to help her down from the transporter platform. She takes his hands and looks at him, pausing for a moment.
JANEWAY
(continuing)
Oh, hell ...She jumps down and gives him a nice, long embrace. He's pleasantly surprised by her demonstrativeness and returns in kind. After, he holds her by the shoulders and studies her face. Eyes twinkling, he nods.
CHAKOTAY
(pleased with her)
You knew I'd come.JANEWAY
It took a while,
(dryly)
but I got it.They hold the moment, then Janeway pats Chakotay's arm.
JANEWAY
(continuing -
back to business)
So, Commander. Where are we?CHAKOTAY
Seven has determined that we are in fact five thousand light years closer to the Alpha Quadrant than we were two weeks ago!Janeway sits down on the edge of the transporter platform, pleasantly shocked.
JANEWAY
Five thousand light years closer!Looking off, Janeway lets the news sink in. Then back to Chakotay, with mock seriousness.
JANEWAY
I should throw you in the brig for taking Voyager into that wormhole!
(beat)
But I'd have to throw myself in first.CHAKOTAY
It all worked out for the best.
(dryly)
Seven kept us moving.JANEWAY
How is Seven?CHAKOTAY
She took your loss hard. It was a separation she didn't want to
(beat)
adapt to.Janeway nods.
CHAKOTAY
(continues)
She said you gave her hope. Apparently she learned how to use it.JANEWAY
I may have learned a few things myself these past two weeks.CHAKOTAY
(eyes twinkling)
I'd say you did!She touches his cheek.
JANEWAY
It's good to be back. They enjoy the moment.
CHAKOTAY
(back to business)
Neelix...Janeway smiles.
CHAKOTAY
(continues)
... is planning a Welcome Back Captain party in Sandrine's at nineteen hundred hours. I hope this time you'll join us.JANEWAY
I wouldn't miss it for the world.OFF Janeway and Chakotay.
INT. VOYAGER BRIDGE
Tuvok and Seven alone on the bridge. Seven appears irritated.
SEVEN
So the Captain has returned and we are five thousand light years closer to the Alpha Quadrant.Tuvok glances up, expectantly.
TUVOK
And?SEVEN
The sequence of events that brought us to this point, starting with the Captain's foolish decision to pilot the shuttle. It has been both improbable and nearly disastrous.
TUVOK
Seven, you will find both of those attributes common to events outside the hive.SEVEN
I fail to understand how a bad decision can lead to a good outcome.TUVOK
One questionable decision, Seven. If we are all here and all alive, all the subsequent decisions must have been
(beat)
satisfactory.Seven ponders his answer.
SEVEN
Furthermore, I fail to understand how Commander Chakotay knew the Captain would not attempt a return through the wormhole herself. It was not logical.TUVOK
True. But Commander Chakotay was able to recognize not only the Captain's expected behavior. He was able to anticipate that the Captain would figure out our behavior. He was thereby able to properly deduce the correct actions to take.SEVEN
I find it all very
(beat)
puzzling.TUVOK
As I have told you, the ability to accurately perceive one's environment is as critical as the ability to process such information; recognition is as important as computation.
(pause)
Since knowledge in the hive is assimilated rather than perceived, your
(beat)
education
(beat)
as a Borg may have inhibited your powers of pattern recognition. So while you may well be the most knowledgeable human alive, because of your experiences, you may be missing a critical human intellectual facility.Seven's eyes go wide.
TUVOK
(continues)
It would be logical for you to attempt to remedy that situation.Seven thinks about this information. They both work quietly for a while.
TUVOK
(continues)
Will you be attending the Captain's party this evening?SEVEN
(annoyed)
No!TUVOK
Seven. You sound
(beat)
perturbed.SEVEN
I am not perturbed!TUVOK
(studying Seven)
I would say you are having an emotional reaction, both to the Captain's departure and to her return.
(looking back to his work)
And, in typical fashion, you are failing to recognize the reality of the experience.
(back to Seven)
A very human act, Seven. Your biological heritage is asserting itself more strongly than ever!Seven slams a PADD down.
SEVEN
If you need me, I will be in my
(beat)
alcove.
(beat)
Regenerating.Seven stares at Tuvok and walks of the bridge. In a moment, he follows.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. VOYAGER CORRIDOR
Janeway, slowly walking, alone. She appears to be thinking, peaceful and content.
She pauses by a wall display that shows a map of the inside of Voyager. She draws her hand across it slowly, smiling, then moves on down the corridor.
INT. VOYAGER SEVEN'S BORG ALCOVE
Janeway walks slowly in and approaches Seven, who appears to be regenerating. Janeway studies her for a moment, decides not to disturb her, and turns to walk out.
Seven opens up one eye, the one with the Borg thing, that pops up a little bit.
Janeway glances back, catching her peeking, and comes toward Seven again.
Seven opens both eyes, takes a step, and folds her arms, staring down at Janeway.
SEVEN
Captain.JANEWAY
Seven.
(beat)
I'm sorry if I caused you distress.Seven looks uncomfortable but doesn't say anything.
JANEWAY
(continuing)
I was hoping you could join us in Sandrine's for a little
(beat)
refreshment.SEVEN
I do not require sustenance at this time. I have much to do.
(beat)
I am busy.
(beat)
Regenerating.Janeway smiles at the irony of the role reversal.
Then, Seven lets a small smile creep across her face.JANEWAY
Well I hope you can join us when you're done.SEVEN
Thank you, Captain.Janeway walks out; Seven watches her go, looking a bit unsure of herself.
INT. VOYAGER SANDRINE'S
Music, food, festivities, lots of people. Senior staff minus Seven at big table. Paris and Torres are next to each other; Janeway is between Tuvok and Chakotay.
Music changes from fast to slow; Chakotay stands up and extends his hand to Janeway.
CHAKOTAY
Captain, shall we dance?JANEWAY
(to no one in particular)
I've danced more in the past two weeks than I have in the past four years!(to Chakotay, smiling)
Yes, I'd love to.Janeway and Chakotay walk off to the dance floor.
JANEWAY AND CHAKOTAY
We watch them dance for a moment.
BACK TO THE TABLE
Paris is looking at Janeway and Chakotay dancing.
PARIS
Well the Captain's sure been
(beat)
chipper since her return.Torres gives him a look, like, "So what are you thinking?"
TUVOK
I am sure she is happy to be reunited with her ship and crew after her long absence.PARIS
Yeah ...Paris can't take his eyes off Janeway. Torres gives him a slap on his arm with the back of her hand.
TORRES
Tom!PARIS
What???Paris looks back to Janeway.
PARIS
(continuing)
I gotta try that myself!Torres' mouth drops open as she watches Paris approach Janeway and Chakotay.
ON PARIS, JANEWAY AND CHAKOTAY
Paris goes up to Janeway and Chakotay, who are still dancing, and taps Chakotay on the shoulder.
PARIS
Commander! May I cut in?Janeway and Chakotay look at each other and are about to tell Tom to get lost when Janeway spots Seven entering the room and standing there by herself.
Janeway eyeballs Chakotay over to Seven; he nods.
CHAKOTAY
Put me on your dance card after Tom, Captain!JANEWAY
Done, Commander! The music changes to 20th century rock, Fifty's flavor.
JANEWAY
Come on, Tom!Tom looks a little put out that he caught a jitterbug rather than a slow dance, but he's game and starts to dance.
ON SEVEN AND CHAKOTAY
Chakotay approaches Seven and holds out his hand.
CHAKOTAY
May I have this dance?Seven doesn't respond right away. She looks around, sighs, and puts her Borgified hand in his. Chakotay leads her to the dance floor and they start to dance. Seven starts getting into it.
BACK AT THE TABLE
Janeway sits down next to Tuvok; Paris sits down next to Torres. Slowly, Janeway views her domain, including Seven, who appears to be dancing a jitterbug quite well with Chakotay.
JANEWAY
(to Tuvok)
It's good to be home, old friend. It's good to be home.
EXT. VOYAGER
Voyager, it's nacelles bouncing back and forth to the beat of the 20th century rock classic, "Cause you're the one that I want, Uh, Uh, Uh ..."
FADE OUT.
